Public Utilities

MATS has undergone highly successful trials with two major Public Utility companies.

The challenge was to use MATS to automate the reading of utility meters in businesses and in the home using SMS messaging.

The dual objectives of acquiring more accurate meter readings and reducing the number of expensive home visits by public utilities personnel were achieved, with targets set for the pilot being exceeded in both cases.

One option included the use of a WAP interface offering explicit instructions on how to correctly read and report a meter reading back via the customer's mobile phone.

Rules within the MATS admin. system ensured that incorrectly supplied or formatted readings were rejected with a second request to resupply the data being sent by a follow up SMS.
